INTRODUCTION |
|
The Library and Documentation Centre has a well-balanced collection and provides
user-friendly services and easy access to facilities. It is one of the best professional
libraries in India. The objective of the library is to provide its user, articles
or material on current topics or affairs in minimum amount of time most effectively
and to provide users with accurate information enabling the Institute (IIHMR) to
achieve excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community services. It is
the first automated library in the state. It consists of three functional units
viz., Technical Unit, Documentation Unit, Information Unit. |

PUBLICATIONS |
The library has a unique collection of publications in various fields such as health
management, hospital administration, health economics and finance, public health,
general management, management information systems, population, research methodology,
sociology, economics, computer science, MIS etc. and also has collection of books
of general interest and valuable reference and rare books.
To
end of March 2007 the library has around 25,000.00 publications including textbooks,
reference books, reports, thesis, yearbooks, back volumes, Manual, case studies
etc. The library receives over 100 periodicals of professional and research nature
in addition to a few periodicals of general interest as well as 150 Newsletters
published around the globe. The library collection also include 385 audio and video
cassettes, 300 CD-ROM and Databases, from India and abroad, like Health Plan, Popline,
e-TALC etc Library also houses Udai Pareek HRD Resource Centre and Gender Health
Resource Centre.

Automation |
|
The
library work is handled with the help of Window based LIBSYS-4 Software. A Windows
2000 server, connected with all terminals in the Institute, handles the library
catalogue, information regarding new arrivals, circulation-based inquires and compilation
of bibliographies. The software has Web OPAC features. The library has Internet
and Email facilities also. |

Facilities provided to the users |
Services like information alert, reference interview, current awareness services
(CAS) and Selective Dissemination Information (SDI) is in progress. The library
is connected with DELNET, which provide facility of connecting the institute library
with various libraries in the Network and with all the management institutes with
AICTE affiliation. Library also subscribes to an online statistical database Indiastat.com.
The institute has collaboration with Johns Hopkins University, USA. Institutional
membership of AUPHA-USA, IHF-France, and SEAPHEIN Project- Bangkok is also an additional
feature of the library. Reprography service is also available. |

Online Journals |
Library also subscribes to Online Journals of John Hopkins University, USA.

- Collection of more than 500 full-text medical and clinical
journals routinely cited in MedLine
- A database containing almost 2,000 full-text resources
in business, including 60,000 company profile.
- Resources in literature and the humanities, including essays,
short stories, poems, plays, author biographies, and an encyclopedia of literature.
- Education resources, including information on private high
schools, undergraduate and graduate programs, and executive education programs,
as well as test prep tools
- Testing tools, including interactive online practice tests
for many standardized tests and preparatory exams, entrance exams, and certification
and licensing tests

Electronic Books |
|
The Enhanced Service also offers access to 20,000 electronic books and documents,
including e-books from leading publishers such as Harvard University Press, MIT
Press, and the Johns Hopkins University Press
|

Barcoding of Library Resources: |
|
Apart from automating, as part of modernising the Library all the Books, Theses,
Bound Volumes, Reports, CDs , etc. are Barcoded. Initially, the barcoding work was
outsourced and now the work is being done by the Library department. |

(Library remains closed only on few public holidays observed by the institute). |

Outside Individual and Institutional Membership |
|
Membership for the library is open to any Indian individual and institution.
To become a member, they have to fill a prescribed form and pay membership fee as
under and can borrow publications for duration of 15 days and can further reissue
