Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) |
“School of Rural Management” under the aegis of the Institute offers a two-year full-time Postgraduate Program
in Rural
Management. This program aims at preparing professionals for a challenging
career in rural management for public, private sectors, NGOs, and national
and multinational organizations.
This program is designed broadly to enable students to:
- Understand the concepts and techniques of modern management and their application
to rural management.
- Develop skills in diagnosing and solving management problems in rural management;
- Develop skills in planning, building and managing organizations in rural areas;
and
- Develop consultancy skills in rural management.
The PGDRM’s pedagogic system is oriented towards problem solving and the curriculum
is updated continuously to ensure that it is synchronized with the current and future
needs of the sector. Interactions between stalwarts from industry and students are
a part of IIHMR culture.
The program, with an intake capacity
of 60 seats, is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Structure of the Program |
PGDRM has a rich curriculum that combines a rigorous training in the following core
functional disciplines of management, with extensive field experience of working
in India’s fast-changing rural environment in a diversity of sectors.
FIRST YEAR
During the first year, the program aims at cultivating multi-disciplinary skills
of rural systems, management principles and communication. The students

Summer Training |

Summer training is an integral part of the program. The students are required to
complete summer training in various organizations and NGOs in the country and abroad for practical exposure and hands-on
training. They are also assessed on the basis
of their performance during this period. |

RESEARCH (DISSERTATION and INTERNSHIP) |
TERM 5
The student will be required to complete a satisfactory thesis in his/her area of
interest. The thesis must be approved by two faculty members in addition
to the thesis advisor. The thesis will include a critical review of the literature pertaining to
the
specific area of interest, data collection and analysis on the selected problem
besides other components. The thesis must be completed in the second
year. |
